Features
The garden of Palazzo Previtera was initially designed in 1908 within an old lava cave but further developments started after 1950. Today the garden has been re-designed and brought back to its former glory thanks to the passion and daily efforts of Arch. Maria Principato.
It is a historic garden built, restored in several spaces according to the principles of sustainability and the daily relationship of plants with the built environment of the Palazzo.
The garden is made up of Jasmine trees, French and English roses, Hybiscus and many more.
In honour of their distinct and incredible beauty, we are pleased to introduce you some of Previtera's favourite flowers. Our garden holds a collection of several species of Camellia, blooming from December till March. Many are old Australian, Asian and European cultivars and some of them plants date back to 1890. Camellia is Previtera's favourite bloom. Walking around spring, you will be able to admire large snowy flowers open before their leaves. This is Magnolia Soulangeana that arrived at Previtera in the late 19th century.
In June, cherry trees will blossom and guests can enjoy cherry trees tasting in the gardens. The garden is set at 550 meters above sea level on the north side of Etna. The fresh air of Etna and the salty air of the sea creates a micro-climate beneficial to the vegetation. The soil rich of minerals and the humidity of the air allow plants to grow well with a generous vegetation. The temperature in the summer is between 25°-32° celsius degrees, whereas in the winter the temperature are between 10°-15° celsius degrees with some low- peaks of 2°-8° celsius degrees in the coldest month of January and February.
